Most of the best cheap OTF knives under $30 on South Summit are 2-inch minis priced from $11.99 to $15.99. Above those sit two 2.6-inch zinc alloy tantos at $29.99. If you want just one, get the Shadowline Slide Compact OTF Knife - Black Aluminum for $11.99. Its listing gives a 2-inch 440 stainless blade in a black aluminum handle with a thumb slide and pocket clip. Among the $11.99 OTFs, it's the one buyers spent the most on over the last 30 days. Skip it if you want more than 2 inches of blade. Every OTF here is double action, and the full range is on our OTF knives page.

How this list was ranked
The order comes from 30-day order dollar volume across the South Summit store network. That means it reflects what buyers chose with their own money over the last 30 days. Every pick was in stock on the day this was published. We didn't do hands-on testing, and nothing here is sponsored.
Ranking by dollar volume gives a $29.99 sale more than twice the weight of an $11.99 sale. That is part of why the two flag tantos land at fourth and fifth. The specs below come from each product's listed specifications.
Best cheap OTF knives, ranked
1. Kawaii Click Confidence Mini OTF Knife - Hello Kitty Pink
Buyers spent more on this pink mini over the last 30 days than on any other OTF under $30. Its listing gives a 2-inch plain-edge dagger blade and a 3.25-inch closed length but doesn't name the blade steel or the handle material. See the Kawaii Click at $15.99.
2. Kawaii Contrast Hello Kitty Mini OTF Knife - Pink Aluminum
This is the same size as pick 1, with a black matte spear point listed as steel and a pink aluminum handle. It opens with a slider and has a pocket clip. See the Kawaii Contrast at $15.99.
3. Shadowline Slide Pocket OTF Knife - Midnight Black
This is the highest-ranked plain black knife on the list: a listed 1.875-inch 440 stainless dagger blade in an aluminum handle that closes to 3.375 inches. It costs $4 more than pick 6 for a slightly shorter blade, which makes sense only if you want the dagger profile. See the Shadowline Slide Pocket at $15.99.
4. Battle-Born Patriot Tactical OTF Knife - Olive Flag
This is the first real step up in blade: a listed 2.6-inch black stainless American tanto in a zinc alloy handle with a USA flag theme. At 4.15 inches closed it rides about an inch longer than the minis, and it comes with a nylon sheath. See the Battle-Born at $29.99.
5. Quiet Resolve Patriot OTF Knife - Gray Flag
This gray-flag twin of pick 4 lists a 2.625-inch stainless tanto in the same zinc alloy handle, closing to 4.15 inches. Its control is listed as a side switch, where pick 4 has a thumb slide. See the Quiet Resolve at $29.99.
6. Shadowline Slide Compact OTF Knife - Black Aluminum (our pick)
It matches the top two in blade length and closed size and costs $4 less. Unlike pick 1, its listing names the steel (440 stainless) and the handle (black aluminum), and it leads the seven $11.99 OTFs in stock in 30-day spending. See the Shadowline Slide Compact at $11.99.
7. Shadowline Micro Precision OTF Knife - Matte Black
This is a 1.999-inch black spear point with Ti-Ni listed as the blade material, in an anodized aluminum handle with a button. The record gives no overall or closed length. See the Shadowline Micro Precision at $15.99.
8. Candy-Sprint Sprinkle Mini OTF Knife - Pink Aluminum Blue Blade
This cupcake-themed mini has a pink anodized aluminum handle and a 2-inch steel spear point with a blue Ti-Ni finish. It opens with a front switch and closes to 3.25 inches. See the Candy-Sprint at $15.99.
9. Cupcake Flash Mini OTF Knife - Pink Sprinkle
This is the pink option at the lowest price in stock, with a listed 1.875-inch 440 stainless American tanto in a glossy anodized aluminum handle. It opens with a sliding switch. See the Cupcake Flash at $11.99.
10. Silent Vector Mini Tanto OTF - Matte Black
This is the plain black version of pick 9, with a 1.875-inch 440 stainless tanto in a matte anodized aluminum handle. It opens with a slider and closes to 3.25 inches. See the Silent Vector Mini Tanto at $11.99.
More blade for less than $20
Ten OTFs in stock cost between $20 and $30, and only the two $29.99 flag tantos among them have blades longer than 2 inches. If you want a longer blade on a tight budget, look at the two full-size ABS-handled knives at $16.99. Neither made the top ten.
The ShadowFlare Rapid-Deploy Tactical OTF Knife - Black ABS ($16.99) lists a 3.5-inch silver American tanto with a partially serrated edge in an ABS handle with a side switch. It is 9 inches open and 5.5 closed.
The Stealth Vector Rapid-Action OTF Knife - Midnight Black ($16.99) has a plain-edge 3.5-inch stainless dagger in the same ABS handle with a side switch. It also comes with a nylon sheath.
How to choose a cheap OTF knife
Start with size, since that is where the price bands split. The minis on this list carry 1.875 to 2-inch blades. Among the picks with a listed closed length, the minis close to 3.25 or 3.375 inches and the $29.99 tantos close to 4.15. The $16.99 ABS knives above close to 5.5 inches, which gives you real cutting length in a much longer handle.
Steel is harder to judge from these listings. Knife Depot says budget OTFs "typically use 440C or 9Cr18MoV, serviceable for light use, but not ideal for demanding applications." SwordsSwords lists 440A among its good options under $20. Our records for picks 3, 6, 9 and 10 say "440 stainless" with no letter grade. Most of the others list only "steel" or "stainless steel", pick 7 lists Ti-Ni and pick 1 lists nothing. Don't assume a grade the listing doesn't give.
Handle material affects weight and feel. Knife Depot credits aluminum with strength and light weight, and seven of the ten picks list aluminum or anodized aluminum. The two $29.99 tantos list zinc alloy, and the $16.99 full-size knives list ABS plastic.
The tantos have a straight edge and an angled tip. The daggers and spear points have a centered point.
The owner's rule on action is simple: "Every OTF knife we sell is double action. We do not carry single-action OTF knives." On a double action, one control both fires the blade and pulls it back. eKnives notes that double actions have more small parts inside and tend to cost more to make. The mechanism is covered in OTF knives explained. Check your state and city rules before ordering.
Cheap OTF knife questions
What is the cheapest OTF knife?
The lowest price on any OTF in stock is $11.99, and seven models sell at that price. The Shadowline Slide Compact leads them in 30-day spending.
Are cheap OTF knives any good?
They are budget knives, and their listings describe the steel only loosely. Knife Depot rates the typical budget OTF steels as serviceable for light use and warns that budget springs can lose tension faster than premium ones. Our listings rarely give the exact grade, and we won't promise more than they say.
Are cheap OTF knives double action?
Yes, every OTF South Summit sells is double action. On a single-action OTF, the switch fires the blade, and eKnives says you put it away afterward by pulling a charging handle. We don't stock that type at any price.
How do I make a cheap OTF last longer?
Knife Depot's advice is to avoid excessive dry-firing and to keep the knife clean and lubricated, which eases wear on the spring.
What if my budget stretches to $50?
Our best knives under $50 list covers OTFs alongside folders and fixed blades.
