Modern blowguns are aluminum tubes in .40 or .50 caliber that fire steel-tipped darts, cone darts or paintballs at paper and foam targets. They are quiet, cheap to shoot and accurate at backyard distances. This guide covers the choices that matter (caliber, length, mouthpiece, darts) and ranks the 22 blowguns and dart packs in stock by orders. All are on the blowguns collection.

Caliber: .40 or .50
.40 caliber tubes are lighter and faster for the same breath; .50 caliber darts are heavier, hit harder and are the standard for most target and paintball-style blowguns. Darts are not interchangeable between calibers, so pick one and stay with it. Most of the models above are .50.
Length
18 to 24 inches is the beginner range: easy to control and accurate to about 20 feet. 36 to 48 inches gives more velocity and range but is harder to hold steady. Two-piece tubes (Urban Veil) split the difference for storage.
Darts and mouthpieces
Cone darts and soft-tip darts are for paper and foam; steel spike darts are for dense foam and cork. Broadhead darts exist for hunting where lawful, which is outside this guide. Mouthpieces: a plain flared mouthpiece is standard; a disc mouthpiece shields the face; a sighting mouthpiece adds an aiming reference.
Safety
Treat a blowgun as a projectile weapon: never inhale with the mouthpiece in your mouth (load, then bring the tube up), keep darts capped in the quiver, shoot into a backstop, and keep it away from children. The Cub Confidence trainer with soft darts is the only model here suited to supervised youth use.
