Cool OTF knives, on our shelf, come down to the look: pink and kawaii prints, Damascus-pattern blades, USA flag handles, carbon fiber, skulls and camo. Every one of them is double action underneath. The one we would hand most buyers is the Battle-Born Patriot Tactical OTF Knife in olive flag ($29.99). It lists a 2.6-inch stainless American tanto, a zinc alloy handle, a pocket clip and a nylon sheath, and it is the flag knife buyers spent the most on in the last 30 days. If you want pink, the Cupcake Shock ($42.99) led every OTF we stock in 30-day spending. The full range is on our OTF knives page.
Quick comparison
How we ranked these
Each number is the knife's position among the 17 picks on this page, ordered by 30-day order dollar volume across our store network. In plain terms, it is what buyers spent their own money on over the last month. Everything here was in stock on the day we published. We ran no hands-on tests, and nothing is sponsored. We grouped the knives by style, and inside each group they keep that order.
The cool OTF knives buyers chose, by style
The owner's rule for this shelf: "Every OTF knife we sell is double action. We do not carry single-action OTF knives." Whatever style you pick, the same slide or switch opens and closes the blade.
Some product titles and themes name characters or brands. South Summit is not affiliated with any of those owners, and these knives are not licensed merchandise. They are sold for how they look.

How to choose cool OTF knives by style
Pick a size first, because size changes carry more than style does. On these picks, the minis have blades of about 2 inches or less and close to 3.25 to 3.5 inches. The mid-size knives have 2.6 to 3 inch blades and run 6.75 to 7.5 inches overall. The large ones have 3.25 to 4 inch blades and run 9 to 9.75 inches overall.
Then look at the listed handle material. The carbon fiber picks list carbon fiber. Knife Informer calls carbon fiber strong and lightweight but expensive, and says aluminum gives a hefty feel without weighing a knife down. On the flag, skull and camo picks, the listed handle is aluminum, zinc alloy, metal or ABS. Two of them (Stars & Stripes and HexShadow) list no handle material at all.
Blade shape comes last. Fifteen of the 17 picks are daggers, spear points or American tantos. The Founding Liberty adds a partly serrated clip point, and the purple camo mini is a drop point. Our guide to how OTF knives work covers the mechanism.
The action does not vary by style. TheCoolist explains that a double action deploys and retracts on the switch, while a single action has to be pulled back by hand to recharge. Every OTF we sell is double action. If you are comparing other knife types on a budget, see our best knives under $50. Before ordering, check your state and city rules.
